Closet Purge Anyone?
With Spring comes the need for my seasonal closet purging and organizing. With space being at a premium here in New York, closet space is limited. So, I edit my wardrobe every season to make more space for new things. As most of you know, I do this for other people all of the time but doing it for myself felt sooooo great.
My major downfall is ironing. Ugh, ironing. I think design school pretty much killed any kind of affection I may have had for it. All of the sewing and pressing, draping and pressing, and the pressing, pressing, and more pressing. Now, I tend to wash and dry everything, then hang it up, with the expectation that I’ll iron it while I’m getting ready in the morning. YEAH RIGHT. Not likely when I’m always in a hurry. The result? A major part of my wardrobe goes unworn. So, today was the monumental day that I made a point of ironing everything in my closet. And now everything can be worn.
I also made a huge pile of dry cleaning, mending, and tailoring. A loose button here, a hem there, a vintage dress that needs to be taken in, etc. Suddenly, it all piles up if I don’t stay on top of it, which I usually don’t. But today it all went out.
Then of course, there are the pieces that I don’t wear or don’t like anymore. Those go into a big bag for my friend’s bi-annual clothing swap party, which is in a few weeks. Whatever they don’t want will go to charity.
Ahh, what a feeling of accomplishment.
And now as I rest and enjoy the rest of my weekend, I thought you might like a little inspirations for your own potential closet purge. I found some great photos of closets on The Selby. I love how these closets aren’t closet organizer perfect, rather they reflect their owner’s personality. Enjoy:

Ohhh, I am dreading doing this spring. We just moved a few months ago into this apartment and I am still exhausted from the move. BUT I did get rid off of a lot of clothes, and it will be easier organizing the winter clothes and pulling out the summer ones!
